Community Connection is a volunteer-based program in which newcomers to Canada are matched with Canadian volunteers who help them learn about Canadian values and traditions.

The objective of the Community Connections Program is to help immigrants overcome the stress of moving to a new country and to gain confidence with their new English language skills.

Volunteers familiar with Medicine Hat help newcomers learn about community resources and how to use them, practice English language skills, and feel more comfortable participating in local events and activities.

At the same time, Canadian volunteers learn about new cultures, other lands, and different languages, they make new friends and they strengthen community life.

There are plenty of activities you can do together such as social events, shopping, cooking, watching movies and get-together. You and a newcomer make your own schedule, and decide together what are you going to do and when are you going to meet.

You do not need to make any financial commitment. You are simply asked to spend time with your new friend, not money.

How to Get Involved
