There are a variety of opportunities to become involved at Saamis Immigration as a volunteer.

Requirement:

Volunteers should be fluent in English and be prepared to work with people with a language barrier. Must have good communication skills, be good listeners and genuinely like people. Please provide and up-to-date resume with three references and we ask each volunteer to fill out an application form. Security Checks may also be required.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Elementary/Middle School/High School

Tutoring Volunteer to help in our after-school tutoring programs for newcomer children at various levels of education and English language development. Tutoring classes are currently held on Wednesday evenings.

Youth Volunteers

Local youth are welcome to join our team and help with special events and tutoring. Individuals under 18 years of age will require parent/guardian permission to join.

Individual or Family Mentor & Community Ambassador

Work with the Community Connections program coordinator to create a match with a newcomer individual or family, and then assist them with integration into Medicine Hat and help with English language practice. Develop relationships and broaden your own horizons while helping Canada’s newcomers to become more comfortable and make new connections.
Language Interpreters and Translators

Saamis Immigration has a language bank of about 86 volunteers capable of interpreting /translating in over 40 different languages. The language bank has an ongoing recruitment of volunteers who speak English and another language(s).

LINC Classroom Aide

Volunteer to assist our teachers with one-on-one support for newcomers in the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada classes. These volunteer positions are dependent on classroom size and need.

Be a Board Member

Help keep Saamis Immigration moving forward and join our board. This is a great way to make a positive contribution to the lives of others and our community.
